A little more than a year
practicing as a nurse practitioner and to say the least it has been
interesting. My education and goal was to work in primary care, but without experience
that first NP job was a little tougher than I thought. After graduating and
studying for boards you start applying to jobs you want. Then as time goes on
and you realize the student loans will be kicking in soon you expand the places
you would consider working. In addition there are bills and living expenses
still happening.
There are some jobs that will take
new grad NPs. You can get in with a big organization or there are many clinic
jobs. A lawyer friend told me he hated his first law job, and in most
professions that first job is usually a way to get experience and move towards
your dream job. In many places Pain Clinics are one of those places that will
take new grad NPs, and this is where I ended up and could not wait to escape.
