Bombing for Peace is Like...........

Sometimes in class you just shut your mouth or wish you would have when certain discussion happen, and there have been some good ones over the years, when I just sit back and bite my tongue wanting to say something. As practitioners in the health care field they say listening is sometime the hardest thing to do. So last night I put in my quick two cents, then told myself to shut-up as the class got into all kinds of different political and health care funding talk. However, I need to get out of my system what I wanted to say.

Certain politicians instead of going after Wall Street billionaire stealing from the middle class, still want to cut programs like teenage pregnancy prevention and family planning. Yes, that includes Planned Parenthood. Where a huge 3% does actually go towards abortion, but that mean 96% apparently, does not. Instead, it is used for things like education, contraception, cancer screening, STD prevention and treatment, and other health issues along with family planning.  You can read their annual report here.  If politicians want to stick by their belief that is fine, I can even respect it at times.

However, some of these same politicians also want to cut programs like women, infant, children (WIC) and Head Start for low-income families with children.

Therefore, these individuals want to take away alternatives and figuratively force women to have the babies, but they don't want to do anything to help them once they do?

It seemed a little hypocritical and does not make sense to me, it also reminding me of the old saying,

Bombing for Peace
 is like
Fucking for Virginity

People should really read the law of Title X

Holy Moly I haven't heard that saying before, but thanks for opening my eyes to it.

I personally have used Planned Parenthood, WIC, and HeadStart. I would hate to see such organizations close because of how valuable they were to me and many others.

Zazzy, I think it is an old war protesters saying, probably from the love children of the 60's.
I don't think those programs will close, but that is not where the politicians should be looking, when not one person who caused the financial collapse has ever gone to jail.

That saying is hilarious and so true!

Indiana Governor Daniels signed a bill last week cutting funding from Planned Parenthood. Personally, I think they should just put a clause in that eliminates funding for the use of abortion, but not for everything. Too many people rely on PP for pap smears, STD/HIV testing, birth control, etc. It's just ridiculous how many bozo's are "running" this country...

LOL - love that saying! So true, right?

Maybe the politicians setting forth some of these policies should apply Planned Parenthood concepts to their own personal lives while they're at it.

Funding for Planned Parenthood already stipulates that it not be used for abortions. I have a hard time keeping my mouth shut when issues like these come up because everyone that I know that's used Planned Parenthood for women's health, or WIC, or head start, even if they don't still, understand how important the programs are. There are a lot of military families that use WIC and Head Start, would these same politicians seem anti-military if that point was brought up?

Yes, instead of focusing on these small portions of the deficit, let's spend more time going after those that put us in this recession in the first place, and make sure it can't happen again.

I also hadn't heard that saying, but it's funny! I agree with the others...the whole cutting of funding for Planned Parenthood makes me really upset. Even if 96% was being used for abortions, and not 3%, who are these politicians to impose their views of abortion onto the general population? I am a conservative Christian who will probably not perform elective abortions in my practice and I feel comfortable saying that. These politicians need to get over themselves and do what's best for the common good.

Agreed Red, you can treat people and be true to your religious or personal beliefs.
I still have a tough time increasing the morphine drip at regular intervals on comfort care, end of life patients. Yes, it is for pain control, but we are also pushing them to the edge quicker.

Our new conservative govt is about to shut down the safe injection site on Vancouver's lower east side.

People think it is a "hey IV drug use is AWESOME" site, but it isn't. It is a place that helps stop the spread of infectious diseases, offers counseling/rehab services, and exposes people (though mirrors in the injection rooms) to the realities of their addictions.

It makes me so sad that the people in greatest need of being supported and treated humanely are consistently denied the tools needed to pull themselves out of the gutter.

Gahhhhh!!! Sorry for my rant on your comment site! =)
